Cricket is a game that brings smiles, excitement, and friends together.
Now imagine a boy who loves cricket more than anything.
He dreams of hitting big sixes and winning matches, but there is one problem – he is not very good at cricket yet!
Every day at his academy, his coach scolds him for making mistakes.
Sometimes he drops catches, sometimes he misses the ball, and sometimes he feels like everyone is better than him.
This makes him sad, and many times he thinks about quitting cricket forever.
But deep inside, he loves the game too much to give up.
So instead of quitting, he keeps practicing, keeps learning, and keeps trying again and again.
What happened next? Did he finally improve?
Did he achieve his dream?
Well, this is the story I am going to tell you!
There was a little boy named Rahul. He was in Grade 4 and always topped his exams. Everyone thought he must be very happy, but Rahul had a different dream. He loved cricket more than anything else.
One day, his mother, Reena, noticed how much he enjoyed playing cricket. She said to his father, Sanchay, “I think we shoul enroll Rahul in a cricket academy”.
Rahul was secretly listening from the next room. When he heard this, he was over the moon with joy! He could hardly believe it.
The next day, he excitedly told all his friends about the academy. They were happy for him and wished him good luck.
Soon, Rahul joined the cricket academy. He was the youngest player there. On his very first day, a boy named Atharv became his friend.
“Run! Run as fast as you can!” Atharv shouted during a practice game.
Rahul tried his best, but he ran very slowly. Before he could reach the other end of the pitch, he was run out.
Feeling disappointed, Rahul walked back to the pavilion. His coach was not pleased.
“Rahul, you need to be quicker and more focused!” the coach said firmly.
Rahul hung his head. His first day at the academy had not gone the way he had imagined.
The next day, Rahul came back to the academy. This time, when he ran between the wickets, he made it safely inside the crease.
“Phew!” he said, taking a deep breath.
Now it was his turn to bat.
Rahul held his bat tightly. The bowler ran in and delivered the ball. Rahul swung the bat with all his strength.
CLATTER!
The only sound on the ground was the ball crashing into the stumps. Rahul was bowled out.
Slowly, he walked back to the pavilion. His eyes filled with tears. He sat in a corner and cried quietly.
The coach looked at him and said, “Rahul, cricket is not easy. You can’t give up every time something goes wrong. Be brave and learn from your mistakes.”
But Rahul was already feeling sad.
When he got home, his parents noticed that he was upset.”What happened, Rahul?” asked his mother gently.
Rahul told them everythingthe missed runs, getting bowled out, the scolding, and how he felt like he would never become a good cricketer.
By the time he finished, tears were rolling down his cheeks.
His father smiled and put a hand on his shoulder.
“Every great cricketer has failed many times before becoming successful,” he said. “The question is not whether you fail. The question is whether you get up and try again.”
Rahul listened carefully. Maybe his cricket journey was not over yet.
His father smiled and said,”Cricket is a great game. It teaches patience, teamwork, and smart thinking. Don’t worry about your mistakes. I will help you improve.”Rahul jumped up and said, “I’m in! Let’s go!”
Every evening, Rahul practiced with his father. His father pointed out his mistakes and taught him how to fix them. Slowly, Rahul started getting better.
A few days later, Rahul played another match. He stayed calm, watched the ball carefully, and followed his father’s advice.
When the match ended, Rahul had scored 17 runs!
It wasn’t a huge score, but for Rahul, it felt like a century.
He couldn’t stop smiling.
For the first time, he believed he could become a good cricketer.
The next day, Rahul walked to the academy feeling excited but nervous.
He was the first batter.”What if I get out again?” he thought.
The bowler ran in.
THWACK!
Rahul smashed the ball into the covers. Everyone clapped. Even the bowler smiled!
Rahul grinned from ear to ear.
He scored a few more runs. One ball flew to the wicketkeeper, Ahmed, but he dropped the catch. It raced away for four.
He expressed a sigh of relief and continued.
For the first time, the coach smiled and nodded.
He scored a few more runs.
He is started feeling better at the crease…
He started feeling confident in the middle.
Soon, Rahul was given out LBW.
“Take a review!” shouted Atharv.
Rahul copied the review signal. The umpire checked the replay.
OUT.
Rahul walked back disappointed. But this time, the coach didn’t scold him. Instead, he sat beside Rahul and explained spin bowling and how it tricks batters.
At home, Rahul excitedly told his parents what he had learned.
“Can we practice now?” he asked.
His father smiled.”Let’s go, son!”
Every evening, Rahul practiced hard.
By the time he came home, his clothes were soaked with sweat.
One Monday, the coach gathered all the players.
“We have a match against Pineapple Cricket Club,”
he announced.
“They have the best bowlers. Be ready!”
Rahul practiced even harder. Soon, match day arrived.
The stadium was full of parents cheering for their children.
As Rahul looked around, he spotted two special people in the crowd his parents.
His coach sent him in to bat first.
The very first ball…SIX!
The crowd erupted.Rahul kept scoring runs and soon reached his first half-century.
Now he had only one goal left “a century”.
THWACK!… Another six!
96 runs.
THWACK!… Another six!
102 runs!
Rahul had scored his first century.
His team won the match.
The crowd cheered, the coach danced with joy, and Rahul’s parents had tears of happiness in their eyes.
At the award ceremony, Rahul received the trophy for Best Batter.
Everyone applauded.
Even the opposing wicketkeeper congratulated him.
Rahul finally achiecved his dream through hard work, dedication, and never giving up.
Winners are not the ones who never fail.
Winners are the ones who never quit.
Note – Not on real people.
